MCLEAN, Va., April 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has selected Science Applications International Corp., to produce its Battle Force Tactical Network.
The BFTN will provide secure line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight network connectivity for between ships and aircraft in the High Frequency and Ultra High Frequency radio spectrum.
The contract features a one-year base period of performance and four one-year options. If all options are exercised, its total value will be about $57 million.
"We look forward to providing leading edge solutions to the Navy, allowing for more robust communications for ships at sea," said SAIC Senior Vice President Thomas Watson.
Under the prime contract, SAIC, which has headquarters in Virginia, will provide engineering and technical services in support of BFTN systems in addition to producing the BFTN rack systems.
SAIC said it will perform the work at a facility in Sterling, Va., but the number of units to be produced wasn't disclosed.
