Northrop, Indonesians partner on radar

BALTIMORE, April 23 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman is working with Indonesian companies on opportunities in the country for ground-based radars, including its AN/TPS-78.

The government of Indonesia is expected to contract for ground-based radar systems and Northrop, which plans to enter the competition for it, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration with PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia and the Research Center For Electronics And Telecommunications of The Indonesian Institute Of Sciences.

"With this agreement, Northrop Grumman will bring its recognized leadership in ground radars together with our Indonesian business partners' combined expertise in electronics research and manufacturing and knowledge of the unique needs of the Indonesian government," said Robert Royer, vice president of international systems at Northrop Grumman's Land and Self Protection Systems Division.

"Our team looks forward to participating in the upcoming Indonesian ground-based radar competition designed to help Indonesia increase air surveillance control and secure its border."

Northrop Grumman's AN/TPS-78 is a state-of-the-art radar with high-power transistor technology. It is designed to operate in harsh environments and is used by the U.S. Air Force among others.
