FAIRFAX, Va., April 23 (UPI) -- A General Dynamics unit has been contracted by the U.S. Defense Information Technology Agency to support the U.S. Army's data center at the Pentagon.
Under the award to General Dynamics One Source -- for one year with a one-year option -- the company will provide both classified and unclassified mainframe computerized processing for the service's Information Technology Agency.
It will also design performance measurement metrics as part of its services to support the ITA's Services Directorate Enterprise Data Center Enterprise Backup, Mainframe and Server Services Program.
The contract, if the option is exercised, is worth $20.2 million.
"The armed forces, and the federal government as a whole, are facing strict mandates and requirements related to data center operations and management," said Zannie Smith, senior vice president of the National and Homeland Security Division for General Dynamics Information Technology.
"We understand the importance of streamlining data center infrastructures to address these requirements and meet the goal of cost-effectively improving efficiency and performance."
General Dynamics has been providing various services to the Army agency at the Pentagon for 15 years.
