SINGAPORE, April 10 (UPI) -- Four patrol vessels for the Omani navy are being built by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd.

The award from Oman's Ministry of Defense includes provisions for associated logistic support and carries a value of $699.4 million.

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, parent company of ST Marine, said work on the vessels will begin immediately and that it anticipates the first patrol boat will be delivered to the sultanate in 2015. The final vessel will be delivered the following year.

The vessels will be based on the company's Fearless class of vessel, which has a speed of more than 23 miles per hour and a range of 1,000 nautical miles at 17 mph. Each vessel will be 246 feet in length.

"We are honored to be entrusted by the (Omani navy) with this project," Singapore Technologies Engineering said. "This is a significant contract to ST Marine and we are confident that we will live up to our reputation as a total naval solutions provider -- from design to construction to logistics support and hopefully through life support for our customer's vessels."
