NEW DELHI, April 2 (UPI) -- The Indian navy has selected Selex Galileo of Italy to modernize and provide support services to an Indian avionics facility.

The contract is a follow-on award worth $1.3 million and includes provisions for the training of Indian personnel in repair techniques, avionics and test equipment technologies at the Center for Avionics Repair and Software Development at the Indian Naval Aircraft Yard in Kochi.

"The CARES facility is seen as a benchmark repair facility within the Indian navy and we're proud to be behind this success," said Alastair Morrison, Selex Galileo's senior vice president for Radar and Advanced Targeting.

"To carry out this new contract we'll be working with Indian suppliers to develop Test Program Sets for the upgrade and will be transferring technical expertise to Indian navy personnel.

"It's all part of our strategy to partner with India in the long term."

Selex Galileo has been supporting the center since its opening in 2001.

The new contract is for a 10-year period.
