WASHINGTON, March 23 (UPI) -- BAE Systems had been awarded a U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency contract to enhance helicopter survivability.
The $34 million DARPA contract engages BAE to develop the next generation Multi-Function Radio Frequency Advanced Rotary Wing Multifunction Sensor system for military helicopter operations.
BAE Systems Technology Solutions Vice President and General Manager Dave Logan said, the ARMS system helps solve the No. 1 cause of helicopter-related casualties and breaks new ground in silicon-based phased array technology.
Logan added that the BAE MFRF ARMS system will improve aircraft survivability in degraded visual environments while enhancing helicopter lethality while minimizing size, weight, power and cost.
BAE Systems leads the research team for the MFRF ARMS program. Other project team members are Mustang Technology Group, Honeywell Aerospace Defense and Space, Applied Signal Intelligence, Inc. and the University of Michigan.
