SINGAPORE, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Eight of the Thai army's Bell 212 helicopters are to be modified and refurbished in-country under a contract announced this week.
Bell Helicopter Asia, in a news release from the Singapore Air Show, said the modifications and refurbishment will be performed in collaboration with its independent representative in Thailand, Royal Airport Services.
"Modifying and refurbishing these Bell 212s will provide the (Thai army) improved mission capabilities," said Danny Maldonado, senior vice president and chief services officer for Bell Helicopter. "We have had a long, strong partnership with the (army) and are looking forward to continuing this relationship."
The monetary value of the award and what the work will entail weren't disclosed.
The Bell 212 is a derivative of the company's "Huey" aircraft. It can carry 14 passengers, has a maximum speed of 138 miles per hour and a service ceiling of 17,400 feet.
