TUCSON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. National Institute of Justice certification has been given for Bourque Industries' Level III stand-alone Kryron Terminator Armor.
With the certification, Bourque's body armor can be sold to U.S. federal agencies as well as to other law enforcement organizations.
"This is a great day for Bourque Industries and its shareholders," said John M. Bourque, founder and chief executive officer of the company.
"Now that NIJ has certified our armor, the law enforcement agencies around the world that have been waiting for our innovative Terminator products are now allowed to purchase from Bourque Industries.
"The timing of the certification is perfect, as we are now bringing online our new large-scale manufacturing processes to be able to meet the demand for our newly certified Level III armor systems."
Bourque's Level III armor uses Kryron, a state-of-the-art metal alloying process that significantly alters the material characteristics of common metals to increase strength.
The armor is lighter in weight than materials in other systems. It also eliminates ricochet and spall shrapnel from the bullet and armor.
In NIJ testing the Terminator Armor System defeated 7.62x51 FMJ NATO rounds within the standard 44mm back face deformation standards.
