PARIS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Russian navy personnel who will serve on French-made assault ships are to receive training from France's Defense Conseil International group.
The two Mistral class ships are being built by DCNS of France for the Russian navy and DCI said that in partnership with the shipbuilder it will train in France about 350 Russian sailors beginning in 2014.
"We are delighted about this collaboration with DCNS for the Russian navy," said Adm. Francois Dupont, executive vice president of DCI-NAVFCO. "We are proud to note that once again our know-how has been sought and acknowledged, including by a nation with a very strong military and maritime tradition."
DCI, of which the French government is a shareholder, was established in 1972 to assist French military arms sales. It offers outsourcing services across the defense field.
Russia last year signed an agreement for the projection and command ships that carry ground forces, helicopters and vehicles for the troops. They are about 650 feet long and have a range of more than 6,700 miles when traveling at a speed of 15 nautical miles per hour.
