LONDON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A new submarine being built for the British navy will be fitted with an integrated search and attack sonar system by Thales UK.
The system -- Sonar 2076 -- was ordered by BAR Systems Submarine Solutions, the prime contractor for the building of the Astute class vessel.
Thales UK said that under the award, worth more than $47 million, it will supply a complete system with fin, intercept and flank arrays and inboard processing.
"BAE Systems is pleased to award Thales UK with this important contract for the sonar system for the fifth Astute-class submarine, Anson," said Ian Hawkes, head of Combat Systems, BAE Systems Submarine Solutions.
"Placing this contract continues a well-established and enduring relationship with Thales UK, and reflects the confidence BAE Systems has in Sonar 2076 and the support Thales has provided on the Astute class and earlier submarine programs."
The submarine, the Anson, is the fifth of its class for the British navy and Thales has been contracted to supply Sonar 2076 and other equipment for all of them.
