MADRID, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Spain's Airbus Military said it delivered 29 aircraft to customers last year and received five new orders for its transport aircraft.
The result, it said, is that its backlog of aircraft orders was lowered to 222 by the end of the year.
New orders were for C295 and CN235 aircraft. The C295 is a twin-engine turboprop used for transporting troops and cargo or for maritime surveillance missions. The CN235 is a medium range transporter.
Aircraft delivered in 2011 included 10 C295s, seven CN235s and three transports, six A330 multi-role tanker/transport and three upgraded P3 maritime aircraft.
"As the current customers receive more A330 MRTTs and put them in service, we have every reason to believe we'll be adding additional orders because this aircraft is very promising for the world's air forces," said Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders.
The company of its new airlifter, the A400M, is progressing toward certification.
Initial deliveries of the aircraft to the French air force are expected to begin in 12 months.
