France contracts for STRIX support

PARIS, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Sagem has received a five-year contract for life-cycle support of observation and sighting systems on French army Tiger HAP combat and fire support helicopters.

The STRIX turret-mounted, gyro-stabilized system provides Tiger crew with observation capabilities and target acquisition for the aircraft's 30mm cannons, rockets and missiles.

Sagem said 50 STRIX systems are covered under the award from the French agency that oversees maintenance, repair and overhaul of France's military aircraft.

Sagem, part of France's Safran Group, produces gyro-stabilized optronic systems for military helicopters. Its STRIX and OSIRIS sighting and observation systems are used on all Tiger helicopters, which are made by Eurocopter, and used by the armed forces of France, Germany, Spain and Australia.

Under the contract, the company will provide "curative maintenance" for the systems under an hourly fee rate. Preventive servicing of some items will be performed under a flat pricing formula.
