ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin reports a new contract from the U.S. Air Force to upgrade weapons system trainers for C-130 aircrews.
The ATS II trainers involve simulation training as well as academic work. Under the contract, Lockheed will modernize the simulator imagery database and visual system. Enhancements will include cockpit illumination, and Lockheed said the latest infrared-enabled night-vision training devices will be supplied.
The system's visual databases will also be improved to match that of a new aircrew maintenance training system.
"The C-130 training effort continuously evolves with advancements in technology to effectively prepare aircrews for their high-precision tactical airlift missions," said Stephen Grotjan, C-130 ATS program manager for the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command. "C-130 aircrews participate in critical military, civilian and humanitarian aid operations, and our goal is to keep aircrews mission ready."
Lockheed said work under the $24 million contract will be conducted through the year 2014.
Additional details were not disclosed.
