ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has ordered upgraded radar and data systems for AH-64D Apache helicopters as well as 15 fire control radar for helicopters operated by Taiwan.

The contract to the Longbow LLC for Longbow Block III systems is worth $181 million. It provides for 18 radar electronic units and 14 unmanned aerial systems tactical common data link assemblies for the U.S. Army and 14 of the FCR units for Taiwan.

The Longbow FCR, which is integrated with the Longbow Hellfire missile, provides all-weather target acquisition through battlefield obscurants. The new Block III FCR REU is smaller in size and requires less power to operate. The lock III UTA provides Apache crews to control unmanned aircraft systems.

Longbow LLC is a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. Work on the contract will be performed at a Lockheed facility in Florida and at a plant of Northrop in Baltimore.

Options that will extend production to 2017 are included in the contract.
