ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The security-clearance process of the U.S. Department of Defense is to be upgraded and streamlined under a $39 million task order to CACI International Inc.

The task order, issued by the Defense Logistics Agency, has a base performance period of seven months, together with nine overlapping option periods, CACI said.

"With this new task order to support the Department of Defense, CACI will directly enhance the nation's ability to ensure that only the highest quality professionals receive security clearances," said Dan Allen, CACI president of U.S. Operations.

"Our direct experience in building advanced interoperable and modular systems for the federal government makes us an excellent choice for this important work."

Under the order, CACI -- through software engineering -- will help develop an architecture-based system that increases the speed and efficiency of the Department of Defense's security-clearance process for workers, from initial verification of eligibility for a clearance for new applicants through re-investigations for employees.

"CACI is focused on delivering government transformation solutions that help federal agencies reduce costs and increase productivity while meeting budgetary challenges," said CACI President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Cofoni. "This is a key element in our growth strategy to deliver shareholder value by offering services and solutions for the government's highest priorities."
