WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin is being awarded a U.S. Foreign Military Sales program contract for the Aegis weapons system for Norway.

The U.S. Department of Defense said work by Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors unit will provide for the next Norwegian Aegis capability baseline and give operational and maintenance support for a new class of Norwegian navy frigates.

The award is a cost-plus-incentive-fee, fixed-fee contract. It includes "logistics repair and spare support for Norway-unique Aegis parts, diminishing manufacturing sources/material shortages, configuration management, engineering support, software baseline development/maintenance, and software maintenance management," the Defense Department said.

The award is worth more than $19.7 million. If all contract options are exercised, the total value would be nearly $32.9 million.

The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington is the contracting activity.

Work will be performed at company facilities in New Jersey, Florida and Maryland, and completed by mid-2014, the Department of Defense said.
