TEWKSBURY, Mass., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Raytheon is supplying the Norwegian air force with an undisclosed number of high-mobility launchers for surface-to-air missiles.

The HML is a lightweight platform mounted on a wheeled vehicle platform and carries six missiles. Norway will use the devices for its National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System.

"NASAMS has been fielded by Norway for more than a decade," said Sanjay Kapoor, vice president for Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business.

"The addition of the High-Mobility Launchers provides the Norwegian air force with a highly mobile, quick-reaction, easily deployable solution.

"We are proud to provide with our partner, Kongsberg, additional superior integrated air and missile defense capability to Norway and honored that the Norwegian air force has placed its trust in this highly adaptable medium-range air defense solution to protect high-value assets and maneuvering forces."

Raytheon said that in addition to providing the launchers, it will upgrade electronics for the air force's canister launcher fleet to match that of HML launchers.
