HAIFA, Israel, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Israel's Elbit Systems reports it will supply the Israeli Ministry of Defense and an unidentified European army with light-weight weapon stations.
The weapons stations are to be installed on armored vehicles.
The Israeli award, worth $11 million, is for development and initial procurement as part of an upgrade process of the Israel military's lightweight weapons arsenal through which 7.62mm, 12.7mm and 40mm LWS are to be designed for installation on armored personnel carriers and armored fighting vehicles.
Elbit said delivery of the systems will take place over an 18-month period.
The European contract, valued at $10 million, is to supply 12.7mm LWS for installation on Pandur 6x6 vehicles.
"We are very proud of our selection to provide LWS to these two customers, reinforcing our position as global leading supplier of diverse types of weapon stations," said Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, general manager of Elbit Systems' Land and C4I Division.
"Our solutions for full scale as well as low intensity conflicts, and our vast experience, enable us to provide customers with cutting edge solutions for all kinds of combat vehicle needs, and we hope other customers will follow."
