NATO orders TMD software upgrade

MASSY, France, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- NATO's hardware and software for theater ballistic missile defense is being upgraded by France's ThalesRaytheonSystems.

TRS said the contract was issued by the NATO Air Command and Control System Management Agency on behalf of the NATO Active Layered Theatre Ballistic Missile Defens Program.

"ThalesRaytheonSystems is committed to supporting this alliance-focused approach," said ThalesRaytheonSystems Chief Executive Officer Jack Harrington.

"Systems such as the Air Command and Control System Level of Operational Capability 1 and Missile Defense on top of ACCS LOC1 will be critically important to fight as one alliance with warfighters from across the nations trained on common highly interoperable command and control systems."

TRS had been given a contract to develop TMD InCa Step 2 in June 2010 and delivered its part of the system to end users last December.

Under the new award, TRS will upgrade TMD InCa Step 2 to the latest configuration of NATO ACCS, replacing aging C2 systems.

TRS said the upgraded ACCS would be the world's first fully integrated C2 system for planning, tasking and execution of air operations.
