EDEN, N.C., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- KDH Defense Systems Inc. has received a five-year, $48.6 million contract from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for personal body armor.
The armor and related accessories are for use by U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel.
"This award, one of the largest domestic law enforcement contracts for personal body armor in the United States, represents a significant milestone in the company's history," said Dave Herbener, president and chief executive officer of KDH.
"Along with our recent sales to the U.S. military, this continued growth and diversification of both our products and core customer base underscores the expanding market share of KDH's industry leading body armor solutions.
"We are pleased with the confidence the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has expressed in the quality, value and proven performance and reliability of our ballistic systems."
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract was given to KDH as a result of a competitive, small business set-aside.
Deliveries are expected to start in the first half of 2012.
