"We are pleased to partner with the Boeing Co. to significantly increase the ability of law enforcement to protect one of the most important waterways in our nation," said Delaware County Council Chairman Jack Whelan. "Here in Delaware County, the Delaware River runs close to the Philadelphia International Airport, two refineries, an interstate highway and major railroad lines.
"We also have a bridge over which 35,000 vehicles travel daily, all of which accentuates the importance of ensuring the security and safety of the county's waterfront."
Under the contract, Boeing will develop and install a suite of surveillance and monitoring systems to detect potential threats to key resources on the river. Implementation will focus on areas near the Commodore Barry Bridge, Marcus Hook and Hog Island.
The company will be responsible for the design, procurement, installation, integration, testing and maintenance of the system.
