WASHINGTON, May 31 (UPI) -- The U.S. military's ScanEagle unmanned aerial system will receive operational and maintenance support from Insitu Inc. of Washington state.
The Defense Department said that under the contract from the Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River, Md.
Insitu Inc.'s services and support include multiple training courses ranging from system pilot training, maintenance and operations, mission coordinator and payload operator; multiple kits for sustainment, payload and engine module kits; and multiple spare parts for the ScanEagle UAS.
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity contract is worth $83 million.
ScanEagle is an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform developed by Insitu and Boeing. The catapult-launched aircraft is 4.5 feet long with a wingspan of 10.2 feet.
Its cruise speed is 48 knots. Its ceiling is 19,500 feet, while its endurance is more than 24 hours.
Insitu's work will be performed in Bingen, Wash., and is expected to be completed in May 2012.
