Danish navy chooses radar

LYSTRUP, Denmark, April 29 (UPI) -- Denmark's new the Iver Huitfeldt class frigates are being equipped with Scanter 6000 surveillance radar systems under a contract awarded to Terma S/A.

Terma S/A, a Danish concern, said the radar -- intended for surveillance, rescue and helicopter guidance -- will be installed on the first frigate next month. The second will be installed in December and the third next February.

The three vessels are expected to enter service on 2013. The new frigates are 459 feet long and 65 feet wide, with seven decks, including helicopter landing deck and hangar.

Terma's Scanter 6000 naval surveillance radar has been installed on the U.S. Navy's Stiletto vessel and will be installed as part of the French Offshore Patrol Vessel program "Hermes" this year.

Terma said it has supplied its advanced C-Flex command-and-control system for the frigates. C-Flex integrates a number of the frigates' defense systems, including the advanced air defense system and a decoy self-protection system, also supplied by Terma.

The monetary value of the contract wasn't disclosed.
