NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE, France, April 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps is getting 120mm mortar rounds from TDA Armements SAS of France under a contract from General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.

The $50 million award from General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems in Florida is in support of a contract to supply the Marines with the rounds for the Expeditionary Fire Support System program.

The EFSS program, started in 2004, provides Marines with fire support capable of being deployed from amphibious ships or aircraft, such as CH-53 helicopters and MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.

The EFSS system has recently been deployed to Afghanistan.

"This contract award is the result of an outstanding relationship which has been built with General Dynamics to provide the most appropriate solution to the USMC for their EFSS program," TDA Chief Executive Officer Guy Lefebvre said. "It is a privilege for TDA to have the USMC as an end-user and underlines the quality and effectiveness of our 120mm rifled mortar ammunition."

TDA Armements SAS is a subsidiary of Thales.

Additional details of the contract weren't disclosed.
