WARMINSTER, England, March 10 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin UK has delivered an upgraded logistics information system to Britain's Defense Ministry for better ground fleet and equipment management.
The latest upgrade of the Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions program -- a Web-based software system -- enables users to track and monitor the performance of millions of assets, military vehicles and other equipment used by the British army, navy and air force.
Lockheed said the enhancements, which include mobile capability, provide more functionality and ease of use, resulting in better assessments of vehicle availability, location, condition and configuration.
The improvements to the system installed in 2005 will help the British armed forces prepare for deployments more quickly and efficiently, the company said.
With the new system, as many as 5 million assets -- ranging from main line items to small components -- can be managed, compared to 120,000 before.
