Harris Canada expands facility

CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Harris Canada has expanded its avionics facility in Calgary, which works on the government's CF-18 Avionics Optimized Weapon System Support program.

The enlarged plant is 36,700 square feet -- 35 percent larger than before -- and provides a secure lab for testing classified equipment, a significantly larger warehouse and space to support planned growth.

In addition to the refurbishment, Harris invested more than $1 million in a fully integrated software suite to provide supply chain management, production control and configuration management solutions to deliver the advanced support to the CF-18 Avionics program it provides under a six-year, $273 million contract.

"This investment demonstrates Harris' long-term commitment to the region and in supporting highly skilled jobs in the Canadian aerospace industry," said Dan Pearson, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Harris Canada. "As steadfast partners, we deliver top-quality support services for the avionics systems on board Canada's CF-18 fighter-aircraft fleet, and are dedicated to assuring the CF-18's success through its life expectancy."

Harris Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Corp., said the expanded facility opened Thursday.
