HALLBERGMOOS, Germany, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Eurofighter is celebrating the 250th delivery a Typhoon jet fighter -- and the 50th this year -- since 2003. The aircraft was handed over to the Italian air force at the Pratica di Mare air base.
"This is one more important milestone for the Eurofighter Typhoon program," said Eurofighter Chief Executive Officer Enzo Casolini. "The delivery of 250 aircraft ensures that the Typhoon has more aircraft in service than any other new generation multi-role fighter, showing just how effective the Eurofighter program really is."
Eurofighter is the largest industrial program in Europe and a partnership between Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain.
Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH manages the program on behalf of the Eurofighter partner companies -- Alenia Aeronautica/Finmeccanica, BAE Systems, EADS CASA and EADS Deutschland.
Eurofighter's Typhoon is an advanced, new generation multi-role/swing-role combat aircraft. It has been ordered for the militaries of partner nations as well as the air forces of Austria and Saudi Arabia.
