Lockheed, Raytheon team for MDA contract

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin and Raytheon plan to team to compete for a U.S. Missile Defense Agency development contract.

The Jan. 28 bid deadline was contained in a notification for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Development and Sustainment Contract from the MDA.

The contract will continue development, manufacturing, test, training, operations support and sustainment support of the GMD element of the country's Ballistic Missile Defense System.

"This team is prepared and enthusiastic about our offer to support this critical national asset," said Mathew J. Joyce, GMD vice president and program manager, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company.

If awarded the contract, Lockheed Martin would be prime contractor and systems integrator.

Raytheon, in addition providing the GMD Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle, would contribute systems engineering, development, modeling and simulation, operations and sustainment, manufacturing, testing and training.

Joyce said three more companies joined the Lockheed Martin-Raytheon team for the project: Bluespring Software, which would provide software tools for modeling, analysis and process improvement; Mission Solutions Engineering for systems engineering and software development support; and Raytheon Trusted Computer Solutions for software support services.

Already members of the GMD team are: Alaska Aerospace Corp., ARES Corporation, ATK Aerospace Systems, Bechtel National Inc., CohesionForce Inc., Dynetics Inc., Harris Corp., Imprimis Inc., IroquoiSystems Inc., NANA Development Corporation's ASTS-Akima Logistics Services Joint Venture, Northrop Grumman Corp., Orbital Sciences Corporation, Oregon Iron Works Inc., Quadrus Corporation, QuantiTech Inc. and TDX Power Inc.
