Oshkosh refurbishing Army vehicles

OSHKOSH, Wis., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Oshkosh Defense is refurbishing an additional 140 tactical U.S. Army vehicles and trailers at its Kuwait facility in a new Army order worth $11 million.

Work on battle-damaged and/or terrain and weather-worn vehicles is being conduction as part of a Theater-Provided Equipment Refurbishment program.

"Our in-theater refurbishment service reduces the maintenance cycle time by weeks and gets these vehicles back where they're needed most, in the field with the warfighters," said Mike Ivy, vice president and general manager of Army Programs for Oshkosh Defense. "To date, we have refurbished nearly 1,500 heavy vehicles and trailers for the Army at our Kuwait facility."

The TPER program was born out of an urgent requirement to repair tactical vehicles worn from extreme conditions and return them to the field. Oshkosh works with the military to ensure vehicles are restored to meet the military's strict equipment-readiness standards before they return to operations in theater.

Oshkosh said it communicates and collaborates extensively with the Army's TACOM Life Cycle Management Command and the Defense Logistics Agency to maintain a multifaceted supply-chain management approach to the project.

Under the order, Oshkosh will refurbish its Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks and Heavy Equipment Transporters.

The vehicles, which were operating in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, are a part of the Army's Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles, which also includes the Oshkosh-produced Palletized Load System. Oshkosh also will refurbish M1000 HET Trailers, which were not originally produced by the company.
