LAGOS, Nigeria, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Nigerian security forces have seized 13 containers of rocket launchers in Apapa's A P Moller Terminals port.
Besides the rocket launchers the haul included ammunition, cartridges and hand grenades, The Vanguard reported Wednesday.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Marvel Akpoyibo told journalists that while no arrests had been made, his command has begun a manhunt for the owners of the shipments even as the police anti-bomb squad was investigating and opening the armaments-laden crates.
Heightening tensions with the Middle East, the 13 containers were reportedly suspected by Nigerian security to have been shipped from Iran.
Nigeria's State Security Service, reportedly acting on a tip, intercepted the containers and cordoned off A.P. Moller port facilities where the containers were examined. Lagos state police subsequently ordered the deployment of Police Mobile Forces to reinforce local security forces until the containers are thoroughly examined.
