ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has ordered Harris Corp.'s Falcon II and Falcon III tactical radio systems for its expeditionary forces.
The company said the order, which will the forces additional line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight capabilities, is worth $13 million.
"Harris' Falcon radios provide U.S. Department of Defense ground forces with a complete range of tactical communication capabilities to address their missions," said Brendan O'Connell, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "Because our radios are software-defined, they are also adaptable to meet emerging requirements and changing mission standards."
Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations.
The company's Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, handheld and vehicular applications. The Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System requirements, as well as network-centric operations worldwide.
Harris' radio systems were recently named by a defense industry publication as one of the Top 25 battlefield technology advances in 2010.
