Work is expected to begin immediately and continue into next year, the company said.

"We are excited to continue providing key engineering and technical services for a wide range of submarines for the U.S. Navy," said Becky Stewart, vice president, Submarine programs and Fleet Support for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. "Our shipbuilders are committed to delivering and supporting the submarines that play vital roles in America's defense."

Newport News is one of two U.S. shipyards capable of building nuclear-powered submarines.
