ROANOKE, Va., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has given ITT Corp. a $19.9 million order for aviator night vision goggles and spare image intensifier tubes.

Details of the contract order from the Army Research, Development & Engineering Command for AN/AVS-6 goggles and MX-10160C intensifiers weren't disclosed.

"ITT has increased its production capacity and shortened delivery times for the MX-10160C night vision tube to meet the demand for our men and women in uniform," said Bruce A. Wald, vice president and general manager of ITT's Night Vision & Imaging business area. "Now soldiers, aviators and special forces operators will have timely access to this advanced technology required to operate in the most challenging battlefield environments."

Night vision systems with the MX-10160C image tubes have the ability to detect available light with more than 10 times the power of previous generations. They are designed for use in aviation goggles and ground systems that are used by special operations forces.
