ANCHORAGE, Alaska, July 23 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin and NANA Development Corp. are partnering to compete for a U.S. Missile Defense Agency contract.

The agency's Ground-Based Midcourse Defense Development and Sustainment Contract is to ensure the reliability and readiness of the GMD element of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System.

It would involve development, manufacturing, testing, training, operations support and sustainment support.

"We are honored to welcome NANA Development Corporation to our GMD team," said Mathew J. Joyce, GMD vice president and program manager, Lockheed Martin Space Systems. "This represents a win-win for the GMD program and the state of Alaska.

"NANA Development Corporation's family of companies will be a key contributor to an open government-industry partnership that will ensure responsiveness and mission focus."

NANA Development Corp. is the business arm of NANA Regional Corp. Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation. NANA is a leader in engineering and construction; resource development; facilities management and logistics; real estate and hotel development; and information technology and telecommunications.

GMD work will be conducted at Fort Greely, Colo., Huntsville, Ala., Eareckson Air Station, Alaska, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency will announce the winner of the contract next year.
