
MASSY, France, July 7 (UPI) -- ThalesRaytheonSystems has been awarded a contract by NATO to enhance the ballistic missile defense capabilities of deployed alliance commanders.
The company said it will deliver the Air Command and Control System Theater Missile Defense component of NATO's Active Layered Theater Ballistic Missile Defense Interim Capability Step 2 Real-Time program.
The NATO command-and-control program integrates early warning and weapons systems.
"ThalesRaytheonSystems is proud to deliver a theater air and missile defense system to ensure the future security of NATO deployed forces," company's Chief Executive Officer Jack Harrington said. "Initial testing will take place during a NATO exercise in July and the system is expected to be operational by the end of the year."
Additional contract details weren't disclosed.
ThalesRaytheonSystems was formed by Thales and Raytheon 9 years ago. It specializes in air defense systems, command and control systems, 3-D air defense radars and battlefield counter-battery radars.
