Air Force unit chooses AAI for support

HUNT VALLEY, Md., June 28 (UPI) -- The Air Force's 84th Combat Sustainment Wing in Utah will receive contractor logistics support for its Tactical Meteorological Observing System from AAI Corp.

AAI, an operating unit of Textron Systems, said Monday the 5-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity award has a potential value of $47.5 million.

The AN/TMQ-53 TMOS, a series of sensors deployed near Air Force landing strips that feed meteorological data to mission planners and field commanders via a computer and an Iridium satellite.

AAI will manage TMOS sustainment for the wing by providing 24-hour, on-call assistance and management of remote supplies.

"CLS (contractor logistics support) include a wide range of services centered on maintaining constant asset availability for our customers in the field," said Diane Giuliani, AAI's vice president for Logistics & Technical Services.

"AAI's ongoing system of sustainment helps customers make the most of their investments. Upgrades and modifications, concurrency management and a robust repair cycle all contribute to a longer system life and lower total cost of ownership."

The company said its turnaround time for TMOS spare parts in the United States is 24 hours. Turnaround time for international requests is 72 hours.
