PALO ALTO, Calif., May 25 (UPI) -- The U.S. Homeland Security Department has contracted HP Enterprise Services to support an immigration status and criminal background check center.

California's HP Enterprise Services was selected to provide the Law Enforcement Support Center at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the integration of a next-generation automation solution.

The Law Enforcement Support Center provides local, state and federal authorities with information services on the identities of individuals cross-checked for criminal activities and immigration status.

Under the $41.6 million contract, HP Enterprise Services will provide its applications to support the modernization of decision-making capabilities through the automation of the manual status determination system currently deployed by the Law Enforcement Support Center.

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement needs to be able to streamline processes and create efficiencies; this is what the modernized status determination process is designed to do," Dennis Stolkey, HP Enterprise Services U.S. Public Sector senior vice president, said in a statement.
