LOS ANGELES, May 18 (UPI) -- Vision Industries and Burtek have signed a deal to partner on addressing the U.S. military's evolving requirements for hydrogen fuel cell technologies.

Michigan's customized military mobile ground systems integration provider Burtek will use its presence in the defense market and partner with Vision to jointly propose the company's hydrogen fuel cell trucks and other hydrogen fuel platforms to address the Marine Corps Systems Command solicitation for hydrogen demonstration projects.

The U.S. military has been actively seeking alternative fuel sources as part of an ongoing strategic initiative to address the escalating challenges of transporting fossil fuel to forward operating bases in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Vision and Burtek's partnership is an effort to address these dangerous fuel challenges and solicitations like the Marine Corps Systems Commands with next-generation hydrogen-based technologies.

"Reducing or eliminating the need to transport fossil fuels and water further entrenches the value of the hydrogen-fuel solution in saving American lives," James Finley, Burtek president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
