AS&E gets Z Backscatter Van service deal

BILLERICA, Mass., May 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. government has renewed a service contract with American Science and Engineering Inc. for maintenance services on deployed portable screening systems.

AS&E, which has headquarters in Massachusetts, says the award is for the company's technical personnel to provide maintenance support on its Z Backscatter Van used by several government agencies.

The $6 million renewal of the maintenance contract includes service support for the company's portable Z Backscatter Van military trailers.

"These service teams consistently exceed contractual commitments with outstanding operational readiness in harsh environments, which is essential to maintaining the Z Backscatter Van's high levels of performance for explosives detection," Anthony Fabiano, AS&E president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

AS&E said in a release the trailers and van X-ray scanning systems are deployed by the government to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations at screening checkpoints among other uses.
