BINGEN, Wash., April 30 (UPI) -- The ScanEagle unmanned aircraft system developed by U.S. company Insitu Inc. marked a milestone the company said in a release.
Insitu's ScanEagle, a small UAS technology designed to provide military units in Afghanistan and elsewhere with tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data, has flown more than 300,000 combat flight hours.
Bill Clark, Insitu's vice president of Emerging Programs, called the achievement a demonstration of the ScanEagle's reliability in addressing the evolving demands on the UAS technology.
"Our continual commitment to advance our technology contributes to this milestone, distinguishing Insitu within the UAS industry," Clark said.
The U.S. military continues to increase its use of unmanned aircraft as a tactical edge over militants in combat theaters and to provide troops with increased situational awareness.
