Oshkosh lands contract for M-ATV upgrades

OSHKOSH, Wis., April 28 (UPI) -- Wisconsin defense company Oshkosh received contracts for rocket-propelled grenade protection kits and remote weapon systems upgrades for its combat vehicles.

Oshkosh Defense said it received a $68 million contract to supply more than 1,750 RPG protection kits for its MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle from the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. A separate contract valued at more than $11 million is for more than 1,000 kits to support remote weapons kits for the combat vehicle.

Ken Juergens, vice president and general manager of joint programs at Oshkosh Defense, said his company was committed to advance mobile protection for the U.S. military.

"The M-ATV is designed to accept these kits and other add-on packages and still deliver exceptional survivability and performance capabilities for operations in Afghanistan," he explained.

The remote weapons kits will be installed on production lines and for previously delivered vehicles. The RPG systems will be installed in-theater, Oshkosh said.

Both orders will be completed by September.
