EVERETT, Wash., April 21 (UPI) -- Aerospace company Boeing received expanded type inspection authorization for its 787 program from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the company said.
The expanded TIA gives Boeing permission to have personnel take part in tests to gather flight data.
Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program for Boeing, said the TIA puts his company on course to deliver its first 787 by the end of the year.
"This TIA expansion is another significant step toward delivering airplanes to our customers," he added.
In addition, Boeing said its latest tests confirmed that the aerodynamic configuration of the 787 was finalized. Fancher said it was "rare" to have the designs for a new product line meet performance expectations with few changes.
Boeing logged its 500th hour of flight testing for the 787 last week. An airplane outfitted with interior elements landed in Florida last weekend to undergo extreme weather testing.
Boeing received initial TIA in February.
