HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 2 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman announced a milestone for its next-generation immersive soldier training program as part of a U.S. Army capabilities development contract.

U.S. defense company Northrop Grumman announced it is advancing Army training initiatives as part its Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System contract.

Under the IAMD Battle Command System deal, Northrop Grumman has developed its Virtual, Interactive, Collaborative, Training, Resource/Environment laboratory in Alabama.

The VICTR/E is under development to provide soldiers with next-generation immersive training that includes air battle scenarios and other combat environments using avatar simulation technologies.

"This type of immersive training will have great benefit for the warfighter," Karen Williams, Northrop Grumman Information Systems sector Air and Missile Defense Systems vice president, said in a statement.

"It will keep them trained and ready in the valuable skills needed to prosecute an air battle."
