ATLANTA, March 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy selected Siemens Industry to provide electrical metering technologies to support the reduction of energy consumption at naval installations.
Siemens says it will work with American Systems to support the Navy's Southwest Advanced Metering Infrastructure project. Under the contract Siemens will integrate its electrical power meters and WinPM.Net energy monitoring software with American Systems at naval installations in the Southwest region of the United States.
The contract with Siemens is an initiative by the Navy to reduce energy consumption and analyze ways to improve operations at naval installation as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
"The U.S. Department of Defense is the single largest energy consumer in the federal government and has set an ambitious goal to improve tracking and analysis of where and how the department is using energy," William Hoover, American Systems president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"The Department of the Navy is at the forefront of this effort with the Advanced Metering Infrastructure program, which will provide it with the necessary tools and intelligence to strategically manage and optimize its energy resources now and in the future."
