CLINTON, Tenn., March 4 (UPI) -- Remotec and partner Autonomous Solutions announced the delivery of a next-generation explosive ordnance disposal robot to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Remotec, a subsidiary of defense company Northrop Grumman, and Autonomous Solutions provided the Los Angeles police with a new Caterpillar TL1255 Telehandler.

The remotely operated robot system is designed with new forward reach, height extension and lift capacity among other next-generation capabilities to support hazardous material response and explosive threat removal among other applications.

"Remotec is delivering innovative, integrated solutions that reduce the dangers of dealing with some of the most serious threats facing first responders, enabling them to keep that danger at a distance," Mike Knopp, Remotec president, said in a statement.

"With the delivery of the robotic Telehandler, we've reached an important milestone for Remotec and our customers: We can now offer them an additional class of unmanned ground vehicles designed to meet new and emerging threats head on."
