TEWKSBURY, Mass., March 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army awarded Raytheon funding for long-lead purchases supporting its next-generation air-to-air missile technology.
U.S. company Raytheon says the contract for long-lead purchases is for its Surface Launched Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile integrated fire control technology.
Under the $18 million deal, Raytheon will accelerate manufacturing for key components for the SLAMRAAM program ahead of low rate initial production for the Army's system of systems initiative.
"SLAMRAAM represents an important step forward in the defense of our troops on the battlefield as well as our nation and allies," Karen Kalil-Brown, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems National and Theater Security Programs vice president, said in a statement.
"SLAMRAAM will field the first command and control air defense system supporting the Army's vision of system of systems."
