Textron, Granite to send HMMWVs for tests

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted a Textron and Granite Tactical Vehicles team to deliver vehicles with upgraded armor for testing and evaluation.

U.S. company Textron says its Marine and Land Systems unit was selected with partner Granite Tactical Vehicles to provide the Marines with High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles.

Under the deal, Textron and Granite Tactical Vehicles will provide their armor upgraded M1114, M1151-A1/REVB and M1165 HMMWV variants to the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab for durability performance evaluations among other tests.

"Working with Granite Tactical Vehicles, we have modified the up-armored HMMWV platform to increase the vehicle's survivability, while enhancing its mobility and payload capabilities," Tom Walmsley, Textron Marine and Land Systems general manager, said in a statement.
