BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. defense contractor iRobot has delivered its 3,000th PackBot explosive ordinance disposal robot technology.
The company announced the PackBot delivery milestone this week. The PackBot has been widely deployed by the U.S. military in combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan to counter improvised explosive devices.
The PackBot is a tactical mobile robot that offers military and emergency response authorities streaming video, audio and other critical data for route clearance, intelligence and reconnaissance gather operations among other applications.
"While this is an important milestone for iRobot, it also speaks volumes about the growing need for this technology on today's battlefield," Joe Dyer, iRobot Government and Industrial Robots president, said in a statement.
