SPRINGFIELD, Va., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. company URS Corp. has selected Versar Inc. to support the destruction of chemical munitions at the Deseret Chemical Depot in Utah.
Virginia-based Versar received the subcontract from URS subsidiary EG&G Defense Materials. Under the $13 million deal, Versar will partner with Japan-based Kobe Steel on a chemical munitions destruction project.
As part of the contract Versar will provide project management support for the implementation of Kobe's Detonation in a Vacuum Assisted Chamber system at the Deseret Chemical Depot.
"The DAVINCH technology represents a major step toward the safe and efficient destruction of a wide variety of chemical and conventional munitions across the globe," Ted Prociv, Versar president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"We look forward to successfully implementing this program, and continuing our strong relationships with Kobe Steel and our prime contractor, EG&G Defense Materials."
