Lockheed Martin to respond to MDA call

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Defense contractor Lockheed Martin says it plans to develop a bid proposal in response to a recent U.S. Missile Defense Agency solicitation.

U.S. company Lockheed Martin announced its intention to respond to an MDA call for a Development and Sustainment Contract Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system proposal.

The GMD systems proposals solicitation, released by the Missile Defense Agency Tuesday, is a call for ongoing Ballistic Missile Defense System GMD development, testing and sustainment support among other requirements.

"Lockheed Martin is dedicated to partnering with the Missile Defense Agency and GMD program office to support and extend the life of this crucial fielded weapon system," John Holly, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Missile Defense Systems vice president, said in a statement.

"We are committed to teaming with the best in industry to deliver consistent, performance-based outcomes across the GMD life cycle."
